The Personal Blog of THE Aaron Couch:

My Thoughts. My Opinions. My Experiences.

Courage among the cowards: woman stands up to ax wielding killers

It’s not just about gun control or religion or rights. It’s about the direction this world is going. It’s about how parents are raising their children. It’s about being in fear of standing up for not just what you believe it… but what is right. I fear that even this post will be slammed because of the misdirection of our generation. I don’t know how you could disagree with Glenn Beck here. He’s spot on. Here’s some of what he says in the video below:

“There was one individual that stood up. One,” “It was a woman that stood up. In fact, she didn’t stand up. She first had to stand up, reach up, pull the little string to ring the bell so the bus would stop that she was on, so she got off the bus because she saw blood in the streets. She looked around all the sheep being led right directly to slaughter and walked up to the guy with the blood on his hands.”

“This woman approached him, confronted him. She then looked back at the crowd with contempt and disgust. You know what made her stand up in the bus? She said her Christian belief. She’s a Catholic. Her Christian belief. When she found out it wasn’t an accident, why did she pursue him? Because she said there were children there and she didn’t ‑‑ better to happen to her than a child.”

“Where were the rest of the sheep?”

My Beef With Verizon: Prepaid Plans Are Like Contracts Without The Contract

I wanted to share my thoughts on this because I feel we shouldn’t just let companies doing these things walk all over us.

Some Background
Currently, I have a prepaid plan with Verizon with an unlimited texting for an additional $20/month. The prepaid plan is $2/day for unlimited talking that day. I only pay the $2 if I make or take a phone call.

The Problem
Yesterday I added money to my account because my account has a due date for payments. Yes.. a contract-free service has a DUE DATE. A date telling me when I need to pay them. Verizon is telling me what to do with my money? I don’t like that.

Here’s the other clincher. A minimum payment of $15 is required. So now you’re telling me how much I have to spend? Not cool Verizon. Not cool at all.

So let’s say I want to end my service and I have $20 left on my account. I haven’t made many phone calls, in order to let the money go further. The payment day to keep the service going is in one week. There’s no way that I can spend the $20 in one week even if I made a phone call every day.

When I proposed this scenario to a Verizon representative on the phone today she said that they could credit it to my account… Yeah. I already have it on my account, don’t really need a credit. What I NEED is my money back because it’s MY money. Not yours.

Basically their prepaid plan has all the consequences of being on contract and whenever I mentioned that, the rep really didn’t have anything to say. And probably because she agreed, but couldn’t do anything about it and had to support the company she works for, which I completely respect.

But isn’t this the WHOLE point of not being on a contract? The ability to just do whatever you want? Yet, large companies have slowly began changing rules and policies here and there… and we just let them without ever taking a stand!

Some people pretend that there isn’t even a problem at all. These people are also probably ones who don’t care what the Government does (which is sad, but that’s a different topic).

Conclusion
So I’ve decided to find an alternative plan asap. Use up the money Verizon requires me to spend, before the next due date.

What are your experiences with big companies like Verizon?

Response to Reply on Abortion.

Rachael, Thanks for the diplomatic response on abortion. I am glad that you agree adoption is the best way. It saddens me when people criticize because of the reasons you mentioned such as families being very willing to do whatever it takes to have a child.

Many of the responses I have gotten have addressed certain things that I forgot to mention in my post… such as gestation periods. You’re right about small embryos. I honestly, for the most part, don’t see that as a big of a deal. But in some research I was looking up (and again I haven’t done extremely extensive, nor do I really need to, for logic and morals to prove itself), I found just about half of abortions were done after 9 weeks. That means the baby is coming right along in development. Also, some of the abortion methods, such as the one I mentioned in my article are ridiculous and should be banned.

About rape. I know I sound extremely insensitive. In the effort to keep the post to the point I didn’t go into detail of any personal experiences, people I know, etc. It is a really terrible thing to endure and I can’t imagine so. But personally to me, I feel that an abortion for being raped still isn’t right. Should it be enforced by the government? I don’t think so… I think I may have implied it should in my post, but that was wrong. I don’t think that. This is where I’m not on one side or the other: Pro Choice vs. Pro Life.

However, I feel that there definitely should be a greater consistency across the nation. I looked it up once (and I’m too lazy to find it again, but if you’d like I can) that 20 states in the US still are for partial-birth abortion. That’s practically murder and that was my point. Not that removing an embryo, which like you said has about the same or less capacity as a fly, is murder, but when the child can pretty much be born, how can anyone be for that? Also to mention that if a pregnant mother is shot and killed the shooter is charged with two deaths. Should he be? YES! So there’s another loop hole.

I agree with you on many points, but if there was anything unclear that I said, or any questions you have shoot them to me! Thanks for joining this rediculous intense topic. I’m actually quite surprised I even posted about it, but it’s USEFUL debate and conflict like this that is what actually helps growth.

rachaelcox:

theendresult:

So I’m treading on a pretty darn sensitive topic here. But I want to. And I apologize to any readers who are offended by this. That isn’t my purpose.

The other week in my Critical Thinking class this was the topic at hand. Let me tell you, it was pretty intense. And I was not prepared for one of…

Abortion is one of the few issues in which I honestly can’t say I have a black or a white opinion on. Before I give my thoughts on this, just one quick jab (that is actually a little irrelevant to the point): I wouldn’t ask people if they’ve taken “anatomy” as an assessment of their knowledge on genetic inheritance, especially when anyone who has taken a biology or genetics class knows that there are inheritable mental disorders. Just off of the top of my head I know Huntington’s is one—I had to do an in-depth pedigree tracing the genetic disorder through several generations in one of my classes just this semester :)

At the heart of it all, I agree with you in that adoption is the best option. There is no shortage of families unable to have their own and would give an arm and a leg for the chance so many girls throw away. That being said.. I completely and utterly disagree with your rejection of rape as a justification. Even without an unwanted pregnancy, rape victims struggle to endure the emotional trauma associated with going through something so horrifying.. I’m sure that there are people somewhere who have enough strength and compassion to lock away the ordeal and its emotionally damaging effects, but I would never expect anyone, let alone require by law, that rape victims live with a reminder of that experience every single day for the rest of their lives—or even just nine months. That’s a cruel injustice to someone whose probably only mistake was deciding to walk out to her car alone, and the fact that she is the 1% does not mean her perspective should be so easily discarded.

In the event you are still not convinced and perhaps intend on some response akin to “abortion is equally cruel,” allow me to address that. A three-day-old human embryo is a collection of 150 cells called a blastocyst. For the sake of comparison, there are more than 100,000 cells in the brain of a fly. It will not become an embryo and show brain activity until roughly week 6. If it is acceptable to treat a person whose brain has died as something less than a human being, it should be acceptable to treat a blastocyst as such. If you are concerned about suffering in this universe, killing a fly should present greater moral difficulties than killing a human blastocyst.

Perhaps you think that the crucial difference between a fly and a human blastocyst is to be found in the latter’s potential to become a fully developed human being. But almost every cell in your body is a potential human being, given our recent advances in genetic engineering. Every time you scratch your nose, you have committed a holocaust of potential human beings. Just to give you some numbers for comparison, you shed approximately 30,000-40,000 skin cells per hour.

I support adoption as the best route for an unwanted pregnancy because it creates an immeasurable amount of joy for people who are unable to have children. However, I am adamantly against the denial of abortion to rape/incest victims because placing the well-being of a person who is here, alive, breathing, thinking, and already suffering on the back-burner for a a tiny collection of cells that is 1/1000 the size of a fly’s brain and as non-functional as one of your skin cells does not sit well with me. Of course it will always come down to where you individually define the “start” of a human life, which is ultimately why this topic will always be grey for me, but after extensive research and earning three-quarters of a Biological Chemistry degree I can confidently say rape/incest victims have a grace period of at least a few weeks before they can reasonably be condemned as “murderers.”

Capitalism Vs. Socialism

Earlier this week I said to watch out for my thoughts on this topic… I never posted it that day. But here it is:

Capitalism: An economic system in which investment in and ownership of the means of production, distribution and exchange of wealth is made and maintained chiefly by private individuals or corporations, especially as contrasted to cooperatively or state-owned means of wealth

Socialism: A theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole. In Marxist theory, the stage following capitalism in transition of a society to communism, characterized by the imperfect implementation of collectivist principles.

Reference: dictionary.reference.com

Personally, the economic system I prefer to be in is capitalism. I feel this way because it has proven its effectiveness much more in the United States and other countries that have adopted it versus socialism. Socialism is founded on principles that inhibit individualism, growth, entrepreneurship and even critical thinking of the people. In socialism the government tells the people what they want to do, how they want to live their lives and what to teach our children. A politically active blogger, Justen Charters, said it well:

You’re telling me that a rich guy who makes 500 trillion dollars a year shouldn’t share his 500 trillion dollars with everybody else?

He continued on to “defend” this socialistic thinking playing the part of someone justifying that they should receive part of the money because they paved the road that the rich guy drives his Bentley on. It was refreshing to see that someone else of my demographic had common sense, however, this socialistic attitude is very common in Americans today. Simply put, socialism is an example of “we the government-dependence” (entitlements and privileges over principles), while capitalism represents “we the people” (accountability and responsibility). Unfortunately socialism is being taught today to kids by their parents and the department of education. For example, valuing your privileges over your principles and to be politically correct instead of telling the truth, are what is being taught by society, parents and schools.

Capitalism ensures that the only thing we get a “cut” for is what we work for and we don’t get “free lunches”, but that what we do get are opportunities, if we strive for them.

Miley Cyrus Death Threats on Twitter… WHAT?!

Today I read something quite surprising and actually very sad. Now some may not take this seriously and laugh or not agree with me… and honestly if you don’t agree, then I’m sorry.

I saw on Cnet today that Miley Cyrus deleted her Twitter account after numerous death threats. DEATH THREATS! WTF?! Really? You are threatening to kill someone over Twitter? ONE: that is very sad that you would even say that to someone, whether they are a celebrity or not (and her being a celebrity has nothing to do with my stand on this by the way). TWO: You did this publicly… on a social network.

Alright, so honestly, what is it about someone that makes you want to KILL them? No matter who they are, what they did, they’re a person and unless it’s a crime such as slaughtering babies, what did they do to deserve to be threatened to be killed? To me, threatening to kill someone is almost as bad as the action.

We all have souls and we all matter. We all have a place. How could you be so cold, so self-centered and so ignorant that you’d threaten to kill or wish death upon someone else? I don’t care who they are or who you are, that just isn’t right.

Wow! Didn’t See THAT Coming…

This is a prime example of how people completely overreact without using their head and just assuming that, basically, people are out ‘hatin’ on ‘em. What a great attitude to have… that type of attitude will get you nowhere in life.

But anyways, let me explain this photo. This is not a friend of mine, but a friend of a friend, who’s photo I had commented on. Facebook notified me of this girl’s comment, so I thought I’d help. Apparently, she thought my remark was “F****ng rude” …which caught me quite off guard to say the least!

I reread my comment trying to think of how it might come across as “rude”, I didn’t get anywhere. So I decided to give her my opinion because apparently she already thought I was rude so how much worse could it get? I guess we’ll see…

If she does comment, I’m predicting two reactions and neither of them are probably going to be positive, despite my efforts. She either…

  1. Get angry due to embarrassment, realizing she was an idiot for jumping to such drastic conclusions without even considering any other outcome.

    OR

  2. Just call me rude again.

Neither would surprise me… and maybe even both will happen. This really is only the tip of the iceberg. I suppose there is a problem, like I pointed out in my reply to her, that people can adhere any “tone” they want to text when reading it.

For example, if I want a writer to sound dumb while reading their content, I can place that tone in my head while reading it and no matter how intelligent they might be or how thought out the content was, because of my perception, the premise(s) and conclusion of the content was “dumb” based on my views.

This is one reason I refuse to ever have serious conversations where conflict could result over chat: texting, email, IM, etc. At the very least: a phone call. Even better: a video call so they can also see facial expressions… And best yet: in person.

But honestly, we as a whole (and I’m talking about everyone — including myself), just jump to WAY to many conclusions without thinking things out. Whether it’s a huge topic or just something small like this. So I thought I’d point this out and use it as an example because it really is sad that people are like this and so insensitive to others. I honestly feel that how we think of ourselves is out we view others. If we dislike ourselves, we may feel that others are trying to condemn or antagonize us… thus interpreting what they say as that too even if they mean well and are just trying to help in some way.

Just my thoughts.

This just happened: A friend said “You’re so weird.” To which I replied…

“Thanks! I wouldn’t have it any other way. You’re so NOT weird and that’s SAD.” :D

In all seriousness though, why is it so weird to be weird. Why do we want to be “normal”? That’s boring and sad and just, honestly in my opinion, worthless.

Society has tried to create this “normal” for people to fall into by creating categories of personalities, disorders, career paths, etc. etc. This KILLS creativity and inspiration and replaces those things with mediocrity and averageness. That’s not a word, but I JUST MADE IT ONE. Suck it society.

I challenge you all to make up your OWN words. Do your OWN things. Get away from those people that hold you back and find someone who enjoys your ways and personality for what it is.

Please share your thoughts on this! Thanks for reading.

This is old news, but things like this happen all the time and that is not old. Even on my own college campus, students are getting ticketed for parking in “non-parking zones” that aren’t even clearly marked.

People need to stand up against things like this! And like stated in the video, “fighting back” is not “looking for a fight”, it’s only standing up for your rights and we shouldn’t be afraid to do so.

Let me know your thoughts on this! Whether it be about standing up for one’s rights or about this particular situation.
